Academy seeks sailors

NORTH Coast Academy of Sport (NCAS) is on the lookout for talented junior North Coast sailors to trial for selection into its 2005-06 Sailing Squad.

To be eligible, athletes should be turning 10-17 years in 2005, and be a member of a local sailing club.

Selections will be based on State and national performances over the past summer, and on an assessment of skills during the 2005 Regional Youth Sail being held at Harwood on the Clarence River on July 9-10.

The NCAS Sailing program, which has been sponsored by Coffs Ex-Services Club since it was established in 1998, has the specific objective of providing the selected squad members a high quality coaching program, in order to assist them in overcoming the barriers of being a regionally-based sailor.

Selected athletes are expected to attend the State and national sailing championships over the upcoming sailing season in their respective class.

Sailing is one of 13 sport talent enhancement programs conducted by the NCAS which is supported by NSW Sport & Recreation and Southern Cross University.

Applications for the 2005 Youth Sail close on June 16. For more information and application forms visit www.ncas.org.au
