$2m tag on cottage

A SECOND beachfront timber cottage in Lennox Head is expected to sell for more than $2 million at auction.

Marketing agent Michael King, of Elders Real Estate in Lennox Head, said the 1070 square-metre property in Raynor Lane was one of the last houses along the beach.

"It truly is a piece of history.

"Only a few of the little old beach cottages are left along here," Mr King said.

"A lot have been retained by families for long terms, and there are not many left to buy. The rest have been bought.

"This property is superior because it is right on the beach and is so close to the shops. They are basically at the back door.

"I think it's in the best street in Ballina shire."

Mr King said the cottage was an original beach house that had been used as a holiday house for many years.

But it had become a deceased estate and the family had made the decision to put it on the market.

A similar property in nearby Dress Circle Drive sold for $2.82 million in September.

Mr King said 10 contracts for the Raynor Lane property had been already given out, but offers were not being taken and the selling price would be decided on auction day, this Saturday.

He said the site had development potential and would suit a duplex or townhouse complex.

"The buyer would be able to build at least three units, but it is really only a duplex site.

"But we have found there has been more interest from people who would like it as a home site rather than units."

The property features a building set back, ensuring open space between the dune and the building line.

The auction will be held on-site at 3 Raynor Lane, Lennox Head, this Saturday, October 16, at 2pm.
