100 years of experience does the trick



FOUR local players with more than 100 years' hockey experience between them have been selected to play for New South Wales at the Australian women's veterans championships.

The event will be held in Sydney from September 28 to October 6.

Janelle Pitman (East Lismore) and Helen Jarvie (Ballina) were selected in the NSW Over-35s team, while Ali Parr (Ballina) and Margie Pembroke (Glee) are in the NSW Over-40s team.

All play in the Far North Coast A-grade competition. Their selection was based on performances for the FNC Over-35s Division 1 team in the State veterans championships at Grafton and subsequent selection trials in Newcastle.

Four other Far North Coast players were also selected in State vets teams Chris Eather and Sue Miller (Ballina) in the 2Over-50s 1and Gloria MacPherson and Janis Hutton (Northern Star) in the Over-55s.

At the Australian championships the top players from all over Australia will be vying for selection in national women's veterans teams.

Over-35, Over-40, Over-45 and Over-50 teams will compete in May 2008 at the Trans-Tasman tournament in Hamilton, New Zealand.
