Anti-vaccine group displays warning signs

CONTROVERSIAL Bangalow-based anti-vaccine group, the Australian Vaccination Network, has taken on the caution from the Department of Fair Trading to display a warning on their website and Facebook page.

Earlier this year the Fair Trading Administrative Decisions Tribunal ordered the AVN to display a warning to be published online by March 26 that stated:

"Consumer Warning: NSW Fair Trading has directed the AVN to change its name because it regards the name to be misleading. The AVN is challenging this direction and the challenge is currently before the NSW Administrative Decisions Tribunal."

At the present time this warning is being displayed on the banner of the AVN website, showing they have taken onboard this order.

AVN was also ordered to change its name by Fair Trading on the grounds its current name is misleading.

Yesterday Fair Trading said that the AVN had not yet changed their name, but had applied for a stay to give them more time to produce a new name for the organization.

The AVN will go before the Department of Fair Trading in a two day hearing in the Administrative Decisions Tribunal on June 13 and 14, the Department said yesterday.
