Man killed on country road: Why was he there?

AN INVESTIGATION into a crash that killed a 29-year-old pedestrian is focusing on what the man was doing on a country road late at night.

Toowoomba City Patrol Group officer Inspector Mark Wheeler said police had interviewed people who knew the Kearneys Spring man in an effort to gain some background to the tragic incident.

Insp Wheeler said the man was walking east along Toowoomba Cecil Plains Rd at Wellcamp when he was struck by an eastbound Volkswagen Amarok ute shortly before midnight on Saturday.

"The deceased has stepped out in front of the utility, colliding with the front bumper," Insp Wheeler said.

"This appears to be an absolutely tragic accident."

The 37-year-old ute driver, from Brisbane, was uninjured.

"Initial investigations certainly don't lay any blame on the driver of the other car," Insp Wheeler said.
