Another schoolie tragedy as teen dies in Fiji

A 17-YEAR-OLD Brisbane boy has died at a Fiji resort during schoolies celebrations.

Harrison Kadell, 17, who was vice-captain at Brisbane Catholic school St Thomas More College, was found dead about 4am local time on Tuesday.

Fiji police said Harrison was partying with friends at the Plantation Island Resort when he is believed to have drowned in one of the resort's three pools.

A spokesman for St Thomas More told Fairfax that Harrison was a "a good role model and outstanding young man".

Earlier, a Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade spokeswoman confirmed a 17-year-old Queensland boy had died in Fiji.

Consular officials were providing assistance to the boys family.

Unleashed Travel, the company that booked the schoolies trip, posted the following message on its Facebook page: "The parents of the teenager involved in the tragic accident at Plantation Island Resort have been notified and all other guests are safe and well, being well cared for during this unfortunate time."

Many of the comments on the Facebook page were left by concerned parents and schoolies.

Plantation Island Resort has the capacity for 600 people. Support staff from Unleashed Travel are on-site 24 hours a day, the company's website reads.

"Schoolies 2013 should be the best time of your life. That's why it needs to be somewhere truly special, Plantation really is that place. Miles of golden beaches, beautiful ocean, stylish swimming pools and a level of service that is second to none. This a 'schoolies only' location," the website reads.

Reports from News Ltd, that Harrison was playing a game in which participants held their breath under water, had not been confirmed.

Harrison is the second schoolie to die this year after Brisbane's Isabelle Colman, 17, fell from the 26th floor of a Surfers Paradise apartment block late last month.
