Anniversary album and tour for Thirsty Merc
AUSTRALIAN rockers Thirsty Merc are marking 10 years since the release of their self-titled double platinum debut LP by releasing their Acoustic Anniversary Album and heading on tour.
Dubbed AAA the album is a collection of acoustic interpretations of fan favourites including 20 Good Reasons, In The Summertime, Someday Someday, and Mousetrap Heart.
With more than 200,000 album sales under their belt, a finalist for APRA Song of the Year for 20 Good Reasons (which also reached No.1 on iTunes in Australia) and three ARIA nominations, Thirsty Merc have found their way into the fabric of Australia's musical landscape.
Vocalist, keyboardist and guitarist Rai Thistlethwayte said the band were looking forward to getting back on the road.
He said it was kind of weird to think they'd been around for a decade.
"(It's) crazy to me, but time flies when you're having fun," he laughs.
"There's been some bucket list moments, a few pinch yourself moments.
"There's been a lot of good times, and the bands very appreciative of that and the support we've received - it definitely doesn't go unnoticed by us.
"It's been really heart warming to us."
After back-to-back releases for so long, Thistlethwayte said it was nice to "come up for air and say thanks to the fans" with this anniversary album release and Australian tour.
"It's going to be like no tour we've ever done before," he said.
AAA has some great new versions of their classics, plus a few new songs too, he said.
"We didn't know how it (the acoustic album) was going to come out, but it turned out better than we thought," he said.
"I think one of my favourite (acoustic versions) is Someday Someday - It's special to me.
"The acoustic version of the song really helps you get into the poetry and the meaning of the song in a different way."
Thistlethwayte was tight-lipped when asked what else Thirsty Merc fans can expect from the outfit over the rest of 2014 and beyond.
The group is definitely looking forward to coming to Lismore though, he said.
