Beef Week 2015: Maz misses out again as Anna crowned Queen
FACED with a choice between a celebrity entrant from Sydney and a group of local girls, judges in this year's Beef Week Queen competition decided to go local, picking a young woman who has been to every Beef Week ever held.
Anna Imeson was on cloud nine after being crowned Casino Beef Week Queen for 2015 on Saturday night.
But the bubbly 21-year-old wasn't relieved of doing her grocery shopping when The Northern Star caught up with her yesterday.
"When my name was announced I went into complete shock and all of the girls said to me it's you, you've won," she said.
Ms Imeson said it wasn't until a committee member told her to put her winner's sash on that the reality sank in.
Born and bred in Casino, Ms Imeson said she had been to every Beef Week except 2007, when the event wasn't held.
"I have been to every Beef Week for as long as I remember, I don't ever remember not going to one," she said.
The PRD Nationwide Casino real estate property officer said she was encouraged to compete in the 2015 Beef Week Queen title by her colleagues.
"When Beef Week came around this year and work actually encouraged me and supported me going in it to build my self confidence; I was a little hesitant at first," she said.
"But it definitely paid off and I'm really glad that I did go in it."
Ms Imeson faced off against 18-year-old's Nicole Shirm and Jade Cole, Simone Skennar, 24, and wildcard entrant, 2Day FM breakfast host Maz Compton.
"I have known a few of the Beef Week Queens over the years and it was always something I wanted to do," she said.
"This year I think we were all pretty equal and I definitely didn't expect to win."
Ms Imeson's official Beef Week Queen duties began yesterday when she enjoyed Evans Head's Beef Meets Reef Festival.
