Anderson Cooper writing memoir with mother

ANDERSON Cooper is teaming up with his mother to pen his memoir.

The 48-year-old CNN anchor and socialite Gloria Vanderbilt will release 'The Rainbow Comes and Goes: A Mother and Son Talk About Life, Love, and Loss' through HarperCollins Publishers imprint Harper on April 5.

According to Harper, the tone will feature "hilarious and always touching exchanges" between mother and son and will contrast Gloria's "unwavering optimism" with Anderson's "darker outlook" on life.

The book is released four days before 'Nothing Left Unsaid' - a documentary about the pair - airs on HBO.

The one-off programme will also screen later this month at the Sundance Film Festival and be broadcast on CNN on April 30.

Anderson recently co-hosted CNN's 'New Year's Eve Live' event from New York's Times Square and was the butt of a number of jokes from his fellow presenter Kathy Griffin.

The comic had her co-presenter read some of his least flattering text messages - including that his mouth "tastes like stinky cheese" - out loud and then gave him a "spray tan" when he complained he was too pale.

However, Kathy put a spoon over his eyes and spray-painted his face gold.
