The Hon. Thomas George, MP
PO Box 52
Lismore NSW 2480
To The Hon. Thomas George, MP,
On Wednesday the 6th May, Jeremy Buckingham, NSW Greens MP, gave a Notice of Motion to introduce to the Legislative Council the Petroleum (Onshore) Amendment (Prohibit Coal Seam Gas) Bill 2015 (the PA Bill 2015). The PA Bill 2015 makes it "an offense to prospect for or mine coal seam gas and other unconventional gas in NSW" . Tamara Smith, Greens member for Ballina, has cosponsored the PA Bill 2015 and will have carriage of the PA Bill 2015 into the Legislative Assembly if it passes the Legislative Council .
We are aware that The Nationals intend to take appropriate "measures to protect the environment and our communities" and are "committed to ensuring any growth in the State's gas industry is done safely and sustainably to the world's best practice standards, while ensuring the protection of our communities" . As concerned members of the Lismore community and of the Northern Rivers Young Greens, we urge you to support the PA Bill 2015 if it reaches the Legislative Assembly for concurrence. We believe this is an important step for your party in ensuring that it honours its policies on the protection of the environment and our communities.
Will you do what is needed to protect this region from harmful coal seam gas mining?
Sincerely,
The Northern Rivers Young Greens
Nina Giblinwright
