Alstonville promoted to top league

ALSTONVILLE sealed promotion to next year's Football Far North Coast Premier League division by maintaining its undefeated record with a 2-0 home victory Woodburn in the men's first division clash on Tuesday evening.

The solid win cements Villa's position at the head of the first division competition - with an unassailable 13-point lead over second place with a game in hand.

First-half goals from speedy winger Eamon Banks and fleet-footed central midfielder Andy Collins earned three points for the plateau outfit.

Villa's defence, urged on by wily sweeper Glenn Kemister, conceded no goals to maintain the club's impressive record of just nine goals against.

Alstonville have won the 2008 minor premiership with four games remaining.

Its record in first division so far this year is 16 wins and one draw.

Coach Stuart Hanna said the team was focused on its next match away against Uki to maintain the unbeaten run.
