Alleged gunman in Lismore court
SIMON MIZZI did not apply for bail when he appeared in the Lismore Local Court yesterday charged with the attempted shooting murder of Michael Mizzi at Bulldog, near Tabulam, on Saturday morning.
Mizzi, 32, made a brief appearance in the dock charged with the attempted shooting murder of Michael Mizzi, 53, between 1am and 4am onJuly 10; aggravated break and enter when armed with a .22 calibre rifle (and deprive of his liberty); discharging a firearm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm; fire a firearm into a building; and possession of cannabis (52 grams).
The matter was adjourned after Mizzi’s defence lawyer signalled the accused would likely make a bail application at the next court date
Police have accused Mizzi of walking inside the bedroom of Michael Mizzi’s home and firing a rifle at his relative while he and his pregnant wife were asleep.
The shot missed and neither Mr Mizzi nor his wife were injured in the attack.
Police previously stated the shot was fired, but missed.
A struggle then ensued between the two men, with Michael Mizzi able to take control of the rifle from his alleged attacker.
Police from the Richmond Local Area Command arrested Simon Mizzi later that day.
