Alleged drug driver in fatal Broadwater crash to face court

A 31-year-old man is set to face Lismore Local Court today over a fatal crash on the Pacific Highway at Broadwater last year.

On Tuesday July 7 2015, a southbound white Isuzu D-Max and a northbound white Toyota Kluger collided head-on, and of the five people travelling in the Toyota, a woman in her late 60s, was found dead in the rear of the vehicle.

The other passengers in the Toyota, a 46-year-old man and two children were released from the car suffering minor injuries, while the 41-year-old female driver, was air-lifted to hospital with serious injuries.

The 31-year-old man driving the Isuzu, from Bellbird in Queensland, was also taken to hospital with fractures to both feet.

Police later said he was alleged to have been under the influence of methylamphetamine and cannabis-type substances at the time of the crash.

He was charged at the time with dangerous driving occasioning death while under the influence of drugs; dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm while under the influence of drugs; drive manner dangerous occasioning death; negligent driving occasioning death; and a number of other driving charges.
