All set for that big race

HOPEFUL punters will be clutching tickets and sipping champagne, while Australia effectively shuts down for as long as it takes for 24 of our four-legged friends to run 3200 metres to the finish line.

There are a number of venues this year where locals will be able to enjoy the atmosphere of the race that stops a nation, whether you enjoy a flutter or not.

The celebrations start the weekend before the race with Casino Rescue Squad's Melbourne Cup Calcutta. This will be held at the Charcoal Inn on Sunday, November 3.

It is a 5pm start and tickets are only $1 each. You can phone Jenny 6662 2728 or 0431 213 032 for further details.

Windara will host its annual Melbourne Cup luncheon on race day.

Guests can watch the race on the big screen with friends and family, and enjoy a two-course meal, and a drink, or two, at the fully licensed bar from 11.30am, with lunch for 1pm.

There will be the usual Melbourne Cup sweeps, prizes for the best fascinator/hat, best dressed couple, as well as lucky door prizes and raffles.

Details, or bookings, contact Windara 6662 3800, manager@windara.org.au.

Other Cup venues:
