Alert as smoke affects people with breathing problems

HEALTH officials in NSW have put asthma suffers and those with other respiratory illnesses on high alert as air pollution levels rise as a result of the fires gripping the state.

Many areas, even those many hundreds of kilometres away from the fire are experiencing heavy smoke and dirty air.

Health officials have cautioned against outdoor exercise and have reminded asthma sufferers to follow their asthma action plans.
