Albert Park attracts more junior carnivals

THE Queensland Under-16 and Under-20 state titles will be hosted by the Far North Coast Baseball Association.

The four-day event will run from Friday, October 3, to Monday, October 6.

"FNC Baseball has held a number of state and national titles in the past," Northern Star baseball correspondent Robert Baxter said.

"Thanks to the facilities at Albert Park, with four enclosed fields, two of which are suitable for night games, and the professionalism of running previous tournaments by a number of tireless volunteers, Baseball Queensland awarded the titles to Lismore."

Teams will come from North Queensland, Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Far North Coast.

After the tournament a squad of 36 players in each age division will be selected and, after four to six weeks of training, these squads will be cut down to 20 players for the national championships in January.

The Under-16 and Under-20 Queensland state carnival is expected to attract about 500 people to Lismore.

Seven weeks remain in the minor rounds of the local competition.
