Airport's new apron gets a workout
THE $6 million apron extension at the Ballina Byron Gateway Airport was only opened in May, but it was put to good use today.
Former journalist Graham Hunt took this photo at the airport today, showing Rex's Saab A340, Kevin Rudd's RAAF Boeing 737, an Alliance Fokker F70 and Jestar's Airbus A320 Sydney service all on the tarmac.
The apron extension was funded with $3.5 million from the Federal Government's Regional Development Australia Fund combined with $2.5 million from Ballina Shire Council.
Prime Minister Kevin Rudd was in Lismore today to announce a new Medicare Local initiative for stroke sufferers.
He is also having coffee with The Northern Star's editor, David Kirkpatrick.
