Aidan laps it all up
IT'S really no surprise that Richmond Valley swimmer Aidan Yourell has made it onto the Swimming Australia Paralympics Development Squad for 2015.
The Evans Head 15-year-old trains six to eight times a week under the guiding watch of swim coach Michael Freney and he has been competing for both school and Swimming Australia at state and national level.
In recent months he was named CHS State Swimming 16-19 year old male multi-class swimmer of the meet in March.
He got silver in the 100m butterfly at the Georgina Hope Age Nationals followed up by silver in the 100m backstroke, bronze in the 50m butterfly and personal bests in all nine events he swam in, in April.
At the All Schools State Carnival in May he received two gold medals, one silver and three bronze medals.
And while he was named in the 2015 NSW Multi-Class Development Squad for Swimming NSW, he will now be stepping up to swim for Australia.
The next big meet for Aidan will be the NSW Schools at the Pacific School Games in November in Adelaide where around 3000 international swimmers are expected to converge.
"He will be contesting eight individual races and has been picked in four relays," mum Rebecca said.
"The carnival is over seven days and he will race every day.
"The entire community of Evans Head has been very supportive of Aidan so far, and big thankyous to his coaches Michael and Sally and Richmond Valley Swim Club who have helped him over the past four years to achieve his dreams."
Ms Yourell said they were selling raffle tickets for the next three months to help fundraise for the trip to Adelaide, in front of First National Evans Head on Saturday July 25 and Saturday August 22. This weekend they will be at Riley's Hill Car Boot Sale.
