Director Gillian Armstrong at Writers Festival

Director Candida Baker said she was thrilled to announce Armstrong’s inclusion in the festival.

Armstrong is the award-winning director of such films as My Brilliant Career, Little Women, Oscar and Lucinda and Charlotte Gray.

She will explain to festival goers how words translate from script to screen.

Baker says the festival office has managed a 15% increase in ticket sales compared with the same time last year.

With early bird sales coming to an end at midnight on June 9, now is the time to buy a ticket, she says.

Among the authors announced so far are James Redfield (Celestine Prophecies) and Louis de Bernieres (Captain Corelli’s Mandolin).

Baker promises many more national and international writers at the festival and "a wonderful surprise".

"As a community, we should be immensely proud of our festival," she says.

"It has grown from humble beginnings to now what is arguably Australia’s most-loved literary festival. It’s a party no-one should miss."
