Abandoned car may have sparked 3ha blaze

AN ABANDONED vehicle is thought to have started a large grass fire at South Lismore.

Five fire-fighting units, two from the Lismore branch of NSW Fire & Rescue and three from the Rural Fire Service, were called to Caniaba St adjacent to the Lismore Airport at about 6pm yesterday.

Crews worked for about 50 minutes to contain the three hectare blaze with police closing surrounding roads for about half an hour while the inferno was extinguished.

Police said the discarded vehicle is to be examined by police today.

Anyone with information about the fire is asked to call Lismore Police Station, 6626 0599.
