Community garden brings locals together

THERE were sun hats and comfortable shoes but no dirty hands at Sunday's official open day at the Evans Head Community Garden.

Better known as The Hive, the garden is a project of the Mid Richmond Neighbourhood Centre and aims to provide a creative space for green thumbs, and food for the whole community.

But the open day was no working bee, rather it was a celebration of achievement, with food, drink and home made wood fired pizzas on offer for all.

Co-ordinator Cath O'Halloran said the structure of this community development project meant all the produce is shared rather than having separate allotments which brings everyone together.

There are three main rules: Take what you need for the one meal, pick the leaves not the plant, and join them at their weekly gatherings if you can! Phone 6682 4334 for information.
