A sluggish start to annual sales

IT WAS a slow start yesterday for Maryborough retailers as staff brought out the sale signs and opened the doors for the big annual Boxing Day sales.

Maryborough stores held the sales a day after their Hervey Bay counterparts thanks to the extra-long weekend.

The bargain-hunting crowds were thin at opening time at Station Square but had picked up by the afternoon as people took advantage of the last public holiday of the year.

Williams Shoes 2IC manager Jodie Fletcher and staff celebrated their big sale, which will continue until Saturday, by dressing up as rock stars.

She said the store expected to get a good crowd despite a sluggish start to the morning thanks to some of the specials on offer.

The Boxing Day sale specials will continue at most retailers for up to two weeks.
