Man fined for drink driving after reporting car stolen

A PREMATURE call to police reporting his car stolen on June 18 ended with a drink-driving fine for Kenmore Hills man Ian Neville Jones.

Gympie Magistrates Court heard last Thursday that police found Jones on Monkland St unsteady on his feet and at his car, which he actually misplaced, but they had to leave for an urgent job.

Half-an-hour later police found Jones in Mary St pub having lunch.

He admitted to drinking before driving to town for a short escape from stress at his friend's home in Amamoor.

He had a blood alcohol reading of 0.091. Jones pleaded guilty and was disqualified for five months and fined $650.
