A girl called Julien brings her music to Mullumbimby
JULIEN Rose Baker's music and lyrics speak to all our nagging insecurities, making her songs instantly relatable.
Stylistically, the music recalls the high points of 1990s indie rock with a deeper strain of classic-country song writing, well beyond her 21 years of age.
One of the most beautiful and stunning albums of 2015, her debut record Sprained Ankle is a collection of very personal and heartfelt songs.
Speaking from her home in Memphis, Tennessee, Baker said she was very excited to be coming to Australia for the first time, for the Mullum Music Festival 2016.
"I have never been to Australia, I am really excited," she said.
Julien Baker used to play in punk bands in Memphis but her latest music could not be further from the sound of punk bands.
"Even in the punk scene, people I know not only listen to heavy music," she said.
