Man charged over knife-point abduction
A GENEVA man has been charged over the knife point abduction of a teenage driver at Kyogle.
Police said the 37-year-old forced a 17-year-old teenager to drive him and another man from Kyogle to Nimbin.
Police allege about 6.30pm on October 20, the 37-year-old walked in front of the 17-year-old's car when he was driving north along Kyogle Road, Kyogle.
The teenager told police the man and a co-offender then jumped into the vehicle and asked him to drive them to Nimbin.
It is alleged the 37-year-old showed the young driver a knife, and fearing for his safety, the teenager drove the two men to Nimbin.
Police said the accused man cut a DVD player of a head rest with a knife.
When the 37-year-old and his co-offender got out of the car at Nimbin they threatened the teenager and demanded he stay and wait for them.
Instead, the 17-year-old reported the incident to police before driving back home to Kyogle.
The accused man was charged with take and detain person in company with intent to obtain an advantage and malicious damage.
The man was given conditional bail and appeared at Kyogle Court on 15th November 2012.
He is next to appear at Lismore Local Court in December.
