Maca Castle brings the fun for the school holidays
KEEPER for a Day and Wildlife Guardians are some of the special activities available at Macadamia Castle during the school holidays.
Keeper For a Day: This is aimed at children aged 12 to 18, and allows teens to spend a day behind the scenes with one of the venue's senior keepers.
Macadamia Castle chief of staff Helen Simkins said there were only six spaces available each day for the workshop.
"We ran this workshop last year and it was so successful that we decided to have it again this year," she said.
"The children learn about the conservation of our local wildlife, animal husbandry practises and work at creating and providing enrichment for our animals."
The workshops go from 9am to 3.30pm and cost $125 per participant, with lunch, afternoon tea, a bottle of water, certificate of participation and a Keeper For a Day cap included.
Wildlife Guardians: This workshop is aimed at children aged 7 to 11.
This new workshop was introduced to suit the primary school age group.
The guardians in these workshops get to design and build a reptile enclosure, help enrich the wombats and native bird areas, plus enjoy some mini-golf.
"The children get the chance to get up close with some of the animals that we have here but the general public cannot handle on a normal day," Ms Simkins said.
"People can normally feed the roos and meet the wombats, but the Wildlife Guardians take you behind the scenes and children get to learn how we look after animals."
Minnie The Wombat: At 4pm every day, a group of up to four children can join Minnie the wombat, take her for her a walk, feed her and spend some time getting to know her.
Bookings are essential for this special activity. Cost $60.
Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Flight Bird Show: This activity is now part of the official daily program at Macadamia Castle.
At 12.15pm daily (weather permitting), their feathered friends depart their aviaries to perform their natural behaviours at an outdoor pond setting.
The show provides the park staff with the opportunity to educate, inform and motivate visitors. This is only the second licensed flight show in all of NSW.
