Workers urged to chip in to help save preschool

THE Channon Children's Centre has been the heart of its community since 1979, but now more than ever the small preschool is calling for help.

The preschool of 19 children has relied on fundraising due to a lack of government funding, but now teachers, parents and families are trying a new way to keep the doors open.

Yesterday, workers from around the region were invited to donate a day's pay in an attempt to raise $10,000 by the start of the new school year.

Kylie McGregor, president of the preschool, said they were currently $2000 in the red and the State Government was to blame for all struggling preschools.

“If only 20 people choose to contribute $500, or 100 people $100, we would reach our goal,” she said.
