Who else won Australia Day's top honours?

A LEADING AFL star, with a northern-New South Wales paralympic swimmer, human rights advocate and charity founder have won the 2014 Australian of the Year awards.

The top honour was reserved for Sydney Swans player and multiple Brownlow Medal winner Adam Goodes who embraces his Indigenous background to inspire the young and troubled.

Fred Chaney is Senior Australian for his dedication to human rights and reconcilliation, including his advocacy for Aboriginal voting rights in 1961 and for the 1967 referendum.

Young Australian is Paralympic swimmer Jacqueline Freney, who won eight gold medals at London 2012.

Her cerebral palsy has done little to weaken her incredible spirit.
