Turf Club receives 205 nominations

THE Lismore Turf Club knew all its Christmases had come at once on Monday when nominations for Friday’s eight-race program closed with 205 horses.

It almost certainly ensures full fields and emergencies for the annual Professional Investment Services Christmas Cup race day.

“It’s a fantastic show of support for the club,” LTC secretary-manager Michael Timbrell said.

“This meeting just before Christmas always attracts good support from owners and trainers, but this is just beyond our wildest expectations.

“Last year the meeting had 152 nominations and we thought that was good, but to break the 200 mark is just incredible.

“Only a handful of race meetings throughout NSW each year would get that many nominations, so we have joined an elite class.”

The LTC’s last meeting of the year is again being held as a ‘twilight’ program with the first event not scheduled until 2.20pm and finishing at 6.40pm.

“We always get an influx of people after 4pm with many businesses closing up a little earlier, and with five races to run after that we expect the same to happen this year,” Timbrell added.

“It’s a great way to begin Christmas celebrations for many.”
