Senator Hanson-Young wins case against Zoo magazine

GREENS Senator Sarah Hanson-Young has won a defamation case against men's magazine ZOO Weekly after a three-year fight.

Publisher Bauer Media ran an article in 2012, claiming the magazine would "house the next boatload of asylum seekers in the ZOO office" if the Senator agreed to pose in a bikini shoot.

Ms Hanson-Young's face was Photoshopped onto the body of a lingerie model under the headline "ZOO's Asylum Seeker Bikini Plan".

Bauer Media originally fought the defamation case, but has now reached a settlement, including an apology published on the ZOO website.

"We accept that the article was in poor taste. Senator Hanson-Young has made a significant contribution to asylum seeker policy in this country," the apology said.

Ms Hanson-Young (pictured) said there came a time when politicians had to "take a stand against sexism and bigotry".
