Royalties for Regions cash headed for Kin Kora roundabout

GLADSTONE Regional Council will receive $12.5 million from the Royalties for the Regions programs to upgrade the Kin Kora roundabout.

Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning Jeff Seeney said on Sunday the funding would go towards upgrading the roundabout to a four-way signalled traffic intersection.

"Gladstone has experienced significant growth as a result of new residents servicing the resources sector, which has caused traffic congestion to worsen," he said.

"This project will address traffic congestion and improve safety at the junction of Philip Street and the Dawson Highway.

"The project will cost $25.4 million and the State Government will inject $12.5 million."

Mr Seeney said the Royalties for the Regions program was established to ensure communities get a fair share of the royalties being generated in regional areas by resource production.

"The program has ensured that, for the first time, a share of royalties generated in regional areas is given back to communities in those areas to improve amenities and services," he said.

Gladstone Regional Council will now have to submit a detailed business case for the project to have the funding confirmed by the end of the year.
