Olivia Wells on her way to becoming Miss Universe

MAKING a difference is a driving passion for Olivia Wells.

The 19-year-old is training to become a paediatric surgeon and is a committed charity worker. She also happens to be Miss Australia.

Olivia will soon represent Australia at the Miss Universe pageant, and is the pin-up example of the modern-day beauty queen.

In school she was regarded as a "nerd" due to her diligent study practices, but her hard work is already beginning to pay dividends.

As Miss Australia she won a new Proton Prevé GX.

We caught up with Olivia as she prepares to head for Russia and take centre stage to represent Australia.

What cars did your family have when you grew up?

As my dad always put safety first we had a Volvo, it was a V70 I think. It looked like a brick and we called it the big red car. I remember Dad driving a white Corolla that was filled with work papers and junk.

What is your greatest frustration on the road?

Definitely people who don't leave sufficient distance - I had a nasty accident after a man in a big ute complete with bullbar didn't stop when I stopped. I think it's important to remember safe distance when changing lanes on the freeway too.

Do you have any preferred driving music?

Not particularly, when I am on a long drive in my Proton Prevé I do prefer to listen to whole albums.

If you were to pick anyone in the world to go on a road trip, who would it be?

It would have to be The Stig for sure!

What is your dream car?

Can I have a hovercraft please? Hey, you said "dream"!
