Little Girl wants Rio Tinto to offer up some answers

A LITTLE girl from the bush wants Rio Tinto and the NSW Planning Minister Gordon Stokes to answer some tough questions over the Warkworth Mine extension.

Bulga residents, school kids and wine and tourism representatives will turn rally supporters outside the Singleton public hearing into a second review of the mine's extension today.

Jasmine Kaizer, the 12-year-old Milbrodale Public School captain, will be there with her mum Kylie Kaiser.

"I have heaps of questions for Rio Tinto, like what is going to happen to Bulga?" Jasmine said.

"How much of it are you going to dig up?

"Once you are finished, are you just going to leave the big dirty hole there, because you haven't got enough money to fill it back in? What happens to the endangered species of birds ... are you really going to dig up their habitat?

"Are you really just going to dig up our beautiful country farming land?"

The Bulga community has been fighting for more than five years to stop the expansion.

The opponents claim the mine will be noisy and dusty and that it could hurt the local woodland 110 Aboriginal cultural sites.
