Kyogle Turkeys host Casino Cougars
THE claws will be out and the feathers will fly when the Kyogle Turkeys host the Casino Cougars in NRRRL action at New Park this evening.
Neither team can make the NRRRL finals but there is always plenty at stake when these bitter rivals go head to head.
Opposing firebrands Alex Farrell and Chad Pearce have never seen eye-to-eye but are set to clash head-on in what could become a demolition derby of the west.
Both clubs sit low on the NRRRL ladder (six points each), and Farrell said the Turkeys would treat the clash as a grand final.
“This is all that is left for us,” Farrell said.
“We love to beat Casino and in front of a big home crowd at night would really top off an average season.”
While Farrell didn’t want to get into a war of words with Pearce – the last time he did he failed to perform on the field – he indicated all the passion would be there.
“We will be putting our bodies on the line – holding nothing back,” he said.
“I don’t seem to have many run-ins with Chad on the field anymore – maybe he is steering clear, I don’t know.”
Tonight is an ‘Old Boys’ celebration and sponsors’ night for Kyogle – anyone who wears an old Turkeys shirt or jersey will enter the ground for half price.
But for the Cougars all the trimmings just give them a bigger party to spoil.
Under-18s will kick off at 3.30pm, with the first-grade game at 5.45pm.
In the other NRRRL match today, Evans Head host the Tweed Coast Raiders at Stan Payne Oval.
With no chance of making the finals it appears there is little to play for but the Bombers are an outfit always building towards the future.
The second-year club has unearthed a few talented locals, and a few Kiwis, who can form a nucleus around captain Tim Tregidgo in the years to come.
The match kicks off at 2.45pm.
