Experts call for changes to transparency in health care

LEADING health experts have called for a more transparent medical system to better service consumer needs, a new report says.

The George Institute for Global Health and the Consumers Health Forum of Australia report from 35 health experts called for a range of changes including giving consumers a "more decisive and active role in their own health care".

The George Institute's executive director Vlado Perkovic said Australia's health care system should encourage people to live healthily.

The joint George Institute and CHF report made eight key recommendation including making a range of health data and statistics more widely and publicly available so consumers can make more informed decisions.
