The Maclean man has dementia and sundowners syndrome and was admitted to Maclean hospital last Thursday after attempting to run away from his home.

At 9.30am, Mr Tweedie signed himself out of hospital, caught a bus to Grafton Train Station and is believed to have boarded a train headed to Strathfield, Sydney.

Mr Tweedie's daughter-in-law Sheron Tweedie said Strathfield police had checked the train when it arrived at the platform, but Mr Tweedie was not on board.

"He could have got off anywhere," Sheron said.

"He's got no medication, no money for food or drink and he is very unstable on his feet."

Mr Tweedie is about 6ft2 tall with white hair.

The family believe he may have been headed towards his old home in the Liverpool region, but so far no sightings have been reported.

A keen fisherman, Sheron said she was concerned if he went near the river that he may fall in and drown.

"We're fearing we're going to find him dead," Sheron said.

"All we want is for him to be found - we're beside ourselves."

If you have any information or have seen Mr Tweedie, phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
