80 workers set to lose jobs at CQ coal mine

EIGHTY workers could lose their jobs at a Central Queensland coal mine after mining contractor Redpath reduced its crew numbers, the Australian Mining publication has reported.

Crinum underground mine, located north of Emerald, is owned by BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA), who announced earlier this year they planned to sell off the mine.

A worker close to the project told Australian Mining the employees were given the news late last week.

The Gregory operation was closed late last year, with BHP stating it was no longer profitable.

Australian Mining said Redpath had not responded and BHP refused to comment on the specifics of the cuts.
