Widespread power outages across the Northern Rivers
UPDATE 2.35pm: AN ESSENTIAL Energy spokesperson said customers in the Bangalow, Possum Creek, Federal, Binna Burra and surrounding areas, were affected by an unplanned outage this morning just after 8.30am.
Network protection equipment automatically operated, isolating power supply following the detection of a fault on the high voltage powerline supplying power to those areas. Crews immediately responded and commenced a patrol of the powerline and power poles to identify the fault.
As there is a total fire ban in the area, a thorough on-the-ground inspection must occur to identify the fault . This is a slow and manual process and our crews are working as quickly and safely as possible.
The spokesperson said power was restored to 148 customers just before 12.30pm and the remaining customers by 2.30pm.
Essential Energy thanks customers for their patience and advises to stay at least eight metres away from fallen or damaged powerlines and call Essential Energy on 13 20 80 to report.
