$4.4m for low-cost housing
NSW Housing Minister David Borger paid a lightning visit to the Northern Rivers yesterday to announce details of social housing projects in Lismore and Ballina.
“In Lismore there are three construction projects totalling $3.3 million that will deliver 11 new homes and in Ballina there are four units under construction worth a total of $1.1 million,” Mr Borger said.
“Building social housing not only supports the vulnerable in our community, but it helps to stimulate jobs for builders and tradespeople, helping to keep the economy kicking over.”
The projects in Ballina and Lismore are part of the final stage of the Stimulus Plan which will ultimately deliver 858 homes in NSW by June 2012.
The Federal Government is investing $2 billion as part of its Nation Building Economic Stimulus Plan to deliver more than 6500 social housing homes in NSW.
On top of that the NSW Government is investing $1 billion to deliver another 3000 homes across the State.
