37km of powerlines replaced on Northern Rivers
ESSENTIAL Energy crews have been busy this year, completing a number of electricity network upgrades throughout Lismore and surrounding areas to ensure a safe, reliable and sustainable power supply for customers.
Regional general manager North Coast, Brendon Neyland, said local crews had worked hard to maintain and upgrade the local power network and assist the local community.
"Throughout 2016 we replaced more than 37 kilometres of ageing powerline in the area, 165 power poles, checked 276 streetlights and performed maintenance on more than 2,915 electrical components across the area,” Mr Neyland said.
"We completed our annual aerial inspections of the electricity network earlier in the year, resulting in vegetation trimming throughout the area to remove vegetation hazards from the network.”
A number of upgrade projects have also been completed including work along Jiggi Road, Woodburn, Rosebank and along Ballina Road at Goonellabah.
"Crews have also been outstanding when responding to severe weather events, such as the recent storms during December, where they safely worked through challenging circumstances to restore supply to more than 14,000 customers across the North Coast,” Mr Neyland said.
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank our customers for their patience as our crews completed the extensive amount of work listed above.”
