Weaner steers sell like hot cakes

325 cattle were sold at Lismore Saleyards on Tuesday.

Most of the 255 vealers/weaners were in plain condition this week, but recorded a fantastic average of $3.31/kg.

Prices in the young cattle section lifted across the board by 10 - 20c/kg.

Prime vealers sold to meat processors for $3.20 to $3.40/kg.

Weaner heifers took a big price rise. Good shaped Angus and European breed heifers sold from $3.30 to $3.50/kg.

Weaner steers sold like hot cakes with most in the $3.50 to $3.75/kg range and topping at $3.84/kg.

The quality of the grown cattle was below the last few weeks but prices held firm.

Madison Downs Greyman cow off Mcleans Ridges topped the day at $2.62/kg, 730 kg, $1914.

Medium cows sold from $2.10 to $2.40/kg and lighter conditioned types $1.70 to $2.10
