3 metre snake found fully submerged in backyard bathtub

A COASTAL carpet python gave a couple the fright of their lives when they found it fully submerged in their backyard bathtub.

The homeowner phoned South Burnett Snake Catches 24/7's Christian Andersen to remove the snake.

Mr Andersen headed out to the property at Wattlecamp near Kingaroy and was shocked to discover the snake was more than three metres long and weighed 7kg.

He said it one of his biggest retrievals.

"It was fully submerged in the water trying to escape the heat," he said.

"Snakes can't breathe underwater but they can hold their breath.

"I used a hook and grabbed it. It defecated all over me because it felt threatened so it wasn't too happy about being disturbed.

"The owners were shocked at the size of it because you couldn't tell how big it was in the water."

It wasn't the only call-out on Sunday with Mr Andersen retrieving a brown snake from a duck pen.

The pen was surrounded by snake repeller but clearly they didn't work, with the snake nestled inside the pen eating a rat.

"People have to be aware that in the hotter weather snakes find ways to escape the sun which means they will enter homes, sheds and pens," he said.

"If you have a snake at home, it's a good idea to contain it to one room so when I arrive I know where to look."

Mr Andersen said to treat every snake as if it were venomous.

"If you are cautious of it then there is no way an accident will happen and you are less likely to be bitten."

If you come across a snake phone Mr Andersen on 0435736924 or Toowoomba Snake Catchers 24/7 on 0400874229.
