Rovers set to take Anzac Cup

Rovers go into the Anzac Cup pre-season final at Oakes Oval this Friday at 6.15pm as unbackable favourites.

Due to wet weather their opponents Ballina have not played for three weeks. Meanwhile, Rovers have thrashed Thistles 5-1 and humbled Byron Bay 4-0 in the opening two rounds of the premier league.

Rovers are head and shoulders above any other team in the region. On their flanks the Cassagrande brothers, Ben and Tim, provide great speed and ball control and up front they have a rich choice of strikers including last years Player of the Year Troy Matthews, lanky Andrew Gray, giant Tim Sheridan or the solid Chris Matthews. Their midfield is skilled, their defensive line experienced and their keeper Ian Marshall is gutsy and dynamic. Ballina will need to play out of their skin from the opening whistle to the last second to escape being thrashed.

In Ballinas favour, Lismores grounds remain closed and may not receive enough sunshine to be playable by Friday evening.
