$6.7 billion budget to fix Qld highways

QUEENSLAND'S killer highways are costing taxpayers billions to repair.

Some of the state's most important roads are also the most dangerous - with thousands killed since 2001.

Federal and state governments have dedicated billions of dollars to repairing and upgrading some of the state's biggest roads.

A spokesman for Federal Infrastructure Minister Warren Truss said the Federal government had budgeted about $6.7 billion to fix the Bruce Hwy alone.

The government budgeted about $1 billion on black spot repairs and $50 million on the National Highway Upgrade Program - which includes some of the state's other major highways.
