230 macadamia famers share in $1m bonus as industry soars

MACADAMIA growers will be celebrating this Christmas with an extra $1 million in payments to be made.

The Lindendale-based Macadamia Processing Company Limited, Australia's largest processor of macadamia kernels, announced yesterday that due to higher production, higher global demand and favourable growing conditions, it would distribute more than $1 million in extra payments to its 230 growers.

The grower owned company reported overall production of its macadamias was up on previous years, with prices remaining strong reflecting a burgeoning global market for the company's macadamias.

"2014 has been another very strong year for MPC," MPC general manager Steven Lee said.
