123 couples to say 'I do' at Sydney registry on 12/12/12

A RECORD number of couples is expected to tie the knot on Wednesday in celebration of the last date with the same number for day, month and year (12/12/12) for the better part of a century.

At the Sydney marriage registry, the largest number of couples to get married at one office on the same day, will line up to say "I do".

The first of the 123 ceremonies will take place at 8am and the last at 9pm.

There were 967 marriages across NSW last Remembrance Day (11/11/11).

NSW Attorney-General Smith said many couples found special dates had "irresistible appeal" and joked they made anniversaries easier to remember.

Fuss-free weddings are becoming increasingly popular in NSW.

Last year 4641 couples were married at a registry.
