$120k raised for infant technology at Toowoomba Hospital

THE TOOWOOMBA Hospital Children's Appeal has raised $121,000 for two new OmniBeds, machines designed to provide care for newborns.

The Evans family is one who knows all too well the benefits of the machine, after their twins were born at just over 33 weeks.

"(The OmniBed) has helped a lot - the nurses have had the babies in there to keep their temperatures stable and to keep an eye on them without having to wrap them up," the twins father Mitch Evans said.

Mr Evans said although the couple had been told to expect the babies early the machine had helped to provide peace of mind.

The Toowoomba Hospital Foundation raised the money for the new machines over the course of three months through its appeal, which was supported by Clifford Gardens Shopping Centre.

"Each year we find a piece of equipment that the hospital needs," CEO of the Toowoomba Hospital Foundation Alison Kennedy said.

"The OmniBeds allow babies to go home healthier - it's a useful piece of equipment allowing families to stay here and not have to travel to Brisbane.

"It's nice for people to be able to enter our health service and know the equipment that is used to look after their baby is new and the latest technology."
