10 terrible truck crashes on the Pacific Highway
TRUCK crashes happen all too regularly on the Northern Rivers stretch of the Pacific Highway.
Here is a list of incidents that have disrupted traffic, and, unfortunately, claimed lives in our region.
February 17, 2016, Pimlico - A B-Double truck rolled in the early hours of the morning two kms south of the twin bridges at Pimlico. The driver was not seriously injured and a salvage operation was required to retrieve the prime mover and trailers.
November 25, 2015, Woodburn - The driver of a sedan involved in a crash with a petrol tanker on the Pacific Highway at Woodburn died at the scene. The crash happened about 300m north of the Black Rocks turnoff.
November 18, 2015, Broadwater - A crash between a B-double and a car on the Pacific Highway at Broadwater closed the highway in both directions briefly. A salvage operation had to be conducted at the scene near the corner of Boundary Creek Rd.
October 17, 2015, Broadwater - A cane truck driver and the driver of a Toyota RAV4 died following a head-on crash south of Broadwater. After the Toyota hit the truck it crashed into a tree and burst into flames.
July 8, 2015, Woodburn - A truck driver was seriously injured when his B-Double carrying food products and other cargo rolled onto its side about 200m north of Rileys Hill Road at Woodburn. The highway had to be closed to retrieve the truck and trailers.
March 10, 2014, Ballina - A truck driver was was killed when the tyres on the trailer of the truck reportedly blew and he crashed on the Pacific Highway just south of the Ross Lane interchange. The highway remained closed for some time and traffic diversions were put in place.
January 9, 2014, Pimlico - The Pacific Highway was closed for four hours following a crash involving two cars and a truck 200m south of Pimlico Rd. A 30-year-old man suffered head and chest injuries and was in a serious condition.
June 25, 2013 - Knockrow - A 28-year old man and woman were killed when their sedan was crushed by an out-of-control semi-trailer on the Pacific Highway just north of the Macadamia Castle. The Gold Coast couple were waiting to turn on to the highway out of Ivy Lane when theincident occurred.
April 10, 2013, Wardell - The Pacific Highway at Wardell was closed for more than two hours after a B-double jack knifed just after midnight, trapping the 59-year-old driver. The driver was taken by ambulance to Lismore Base hospital in a stable condition.
December 17, 2012, Woodburn - A truck carrying furniture northbound on the Pacific Highway ran off the road south of Woodburn just after 5.30am. The jaws-of-life were needed to free a passenger who was trapped for about 45 minutes.
