Murwillumbah meet on menu

THOROUGHBRED racing fans are keenly awaiting tomorrow's declaration of acceptances for Murwillumbah's upcoming Victory Ford race day, scheduled to be conducted on Monday.

In the feature Victory Ford Cup, a Benchmark 60 handicap over 1200m, 18 thoroughbreds have been nominated, among them previous on-course winners Little Miss Ombra, Miss October and Willyclang.

Tweed River Jockey Club chairman Bernie Quinn said he was pleased with preparations.

"Everyone's looking forward to Monday's races and I remind patrons and fans that it will be a TAB meeting and we'll have bookies and full facilities at the track," he said yesterday.

"We've had a nice response from connections but we'll have a better idea once acceptances are declared.

"Certainly there's a lot of nice quality racing going on in the Northern Rivers at present."

Monday's meeting at Murwillumbah will be the fourth for local race fans in little more than one week.

Lismore hosted a meeting at the weekend while Grafton raced on Monday and Casino is scheduled to host a meeting on Saturday.

Murwillumbah last raced on January 13 when Nothin' Like A Dane gelding Son Of Benny took out the feature Victory Hotel Mooball Cup 2000m.
