Angelique Kidjo is as famous for her activism as she is her music.

When she spoke to Pulse recently she said she visited her home country of Benin as often as possible and remains an ambassador for UNICEF and and advocate for girls secondary education through Batonga.

She also expressed how much she loves working with other musicians.

"The process of learning from somebody else and to impart a bit of my culture on other people and not to remain too assured about what I do to always put it to other facts," Kidjo says. "It's so important for me to work with other people. It creates so much excitement."

Kidjo released Oyo, a Grammy award winning album featuring John Legend and Bono in 2010.

In February she released her live album Spirit Rising which you can listen to in full.

Kidjo returns to the Bluesfest stage at Tyagarah Tea Tree Farm, April 7-8, tickets available now.
